The speculation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
