The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offences against two children both between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person became sick at the facility in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the children "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor added: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police again.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
